Incredible, These Steps Make Up Mobile App Development
📅 2020.10.29 - 👤 Borbély Viktor
I already wrote an article series about the five basic steps. Now I walk through the process of a specific mobile app development. Starting from the beginning, from the idea, through design, to release.
Let’s think, look for an idea!
Fortunately, I usually don’t have a problem with this. There’s no shortage of conceptions. It’s worth twisting the idea until something truly original comes out of it. Starting from an insignificant-seeming “idea-seed”, very diverse things can come out.
In this case, I took my idea from a TV commercial. A family board game, which is a plastic box that talks to the players, and although it seems so, everyday questions that are not everyday must be decided whether true or false.
At first, this is not an original idea, there are already numerous such applications in the Stores.
Continuing to think along this line, conceptions came together. Where will such questions come from? How will it work? One person or multiple people can play it? If multiple, around a friendly table or online? If online, can someone be challenged to a duel? If a duel, does it need to be played at that given time, or can it be later? If later is also good, couldn’t it be that it can also be played as single-player and rings at a given time every day? Couldn’t this be transferred into a daily challenge? And so on…
It’s palpable that this simple basic idea can fit so much if I deal with it sufficiently. At first, I grabbed a simpler package from this and started like this.
Let’s make drawings and designs for it
I could have also put my ideas on paper. Many places recommend this, although I was already impatiently waiting to visually formulate what was in my head.
For design, I usually use Figma’s online editor. This is excellent for 2 designers’ collaboration. I can share my designs with anyone for review. There’s no limit. What’s also very good about it is that I can make mobile wireframes.
First, I collect visual details on the given topic. I look for such apps, colors, icons, fonts from which I will then build my work. You can see this here. And I put the wireframe here. In this, I can actually create sensitive surfaces that are clickable and take you to another screen. As if it’s already working 🙂
How much time will it take until it’s ready?
This is when I usually open a Google spreadsheet for calculations. I share a downloadable version to give guidance on the list of necessary tasks. This is not complete, and the numbers also serve as examples. Complex list, that’s visible on it. These could be detailed much further.
Where will it come to life?
Well, I mainly like to deal with mobile application development. If needed, I also prepare the backend part in Kotlin language, Spring Boot web application. So now I took out Google Firebase cloud service. This can do everything (indeed!) that I will need.
I’ll need to store questions so I can continuously load newer and newer questions.
User registration may be necessary later. This will still take shape.
I’ll get this far
Fast-forwarding the events, a basic, so-called MVP (Minimal Valuable Product) looks like this. The concept is already felt on this. Colors, shapes, placements are outlined.
I continue in this series with implementing mobile app development. I will talk about small details, decisions. If you follow my writing, you will see how the final version takes shape.
